tocopherol (vitamin e)
what it is
Vitamin E — INCI name Tocopherol — a fat-soluble antioxidant, typically derived from sunflower or soybean sources.
why we use it
It has two jobs. First, it protects the plant-derived oils in a formula from oxidising — rancid oils smell wrong and sit poorly with skin. Second, at higher levels it contributes antioxidant support on skin itself. In feather, at 0.10%, it is mostly doing the first job; in cloud, at 0.50%, it is doing both. We would rather tell you that than imply every trace of vitamin E is transforming your face.

In feather at 0.10% and in cloud at 0.50%.
evidence
Strong evidence for its role protecting oils within formulas; moderate evidence for topical antioxidant benefit to skin at cosmetic levels.
safety
Safe as used. Very high concentrations have occasionally caused contact reactions in sensitive individuals; our levels sit far below those.
