what it is
A small sugar-alcohol humectant — INCI name Glycerin. Your skin already contains it: glycerol is part of skin's own natural moisturising machinery. Ours is plant-derived.
why we use it
It draws water into the upper layers of skin and holds it there, and it keeps the formulas themselves from drying out over their lifespan. It is the backbone of hydration in nearly everything we make, which is why it sits near the top of our labels rather than in the fine print.
where you'll find it
In feather at 6.00%, in cloud at 5.00%, and in our mineral sunscreen (SPF 50+ PA++++), in the hydrators group (4.85% total).
evidence
Strong evidence — glycerin is arguably the best-studied humectant in skincare, with decades of published work on skin hydration and barrier support at the levels we use.
safety
More than a century of continuous use, no meaningful restrictions anywhere, and one of the lowest irritation profiles in this entire dictionary. Boring, in the best possible way.
